FIFA World Cup 2010United States’ dreams of a World Cup crown at the 2010 FIFA World Cup has ended after Ghana defeated them 2-1 Saturday, June 26.

Winning 2-1 at the extra-time, the victory pushed the Black Stars to the quarterfinals, making it the third nation from Africa ever to do so. Cameroon made it in 1996 while Senegal did it in 2002.

“I am the happiest man in the world. In 2006 we made the second round, now we have gone a step further,” said winning goal scorer Asamoah Gyan after the game. “We have made Ghana proud and the whole of Africa proud.”

US coach Bob Bradley can only say this after losing,” I thought at 1-1 we had a chance, but we didn’t have enough freshness against all of Ghana’s power. We have a great squad. We’re proud but also disappointed not to have gone further.”
