French Open: Serena Williams Out!

Serena-Williams Top seeded Serena Williams has bowed out of French Open after losing to Samantha Stosur of Australia in the quarterfinals match.

Stosur defeated Williams 6-2, 6-7 (2), 8-6 thus eliminating a chance for Williams to garner a calendar grand slam, an event that last occurred in 1988 courtesy of Steffi Graf.

“I was definitely off,” Williams said. “Had I played better for two minutes, maybe the result could have been different. But it didn’t work out.” She also declared before that winning a calendar grand slam is not in her mind.

Stosur will face Jelena Jankovic in the semi-finals while Serene will be joining sister Venus for the finals of the women’s doubles.
